A superb figurine made by Augarten in the early 20th century - 1926 to be exact. It is very rare to find thee pieces from the original period!! The figure is from the series of figures depicting different positions of the horses in the Spanish Riding School in Vienna this one being called Courbette.

As always the original period pieces have more detail and are a bit nicer than the later versions! The figurine is in superb condition and displays perfectly but it does have a hard to spot tight hairline in the back left ankle as shown. It does not affect the piece at all in terms of stability!

Both ears feel a little rough to the touch but it is from the making as there are tiny black firing spots to each of the tips. A darker spot on the back of the base under the tail from where a support was removed after the firing which is normal. The figure is 11 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide and about 8 inches long. The piece is marked underneath with the blue shield with the crown on top as well as the word Wien underneath, Augarten Austria in a red rectangle, impressed number 1595, a black 67 as a painter's mark and black initials as well which I cannot quite make out which I assume are also from one of the painters. The side of the base reads Courbette - Spanische Reitschule on one side and Hofburg Wien 1926 only the original period pieces have this date on them!
