ROSENTHAL GERMANY PORCELAIN FIGURINE OF A PRANCING HORSE MODEL 1136 by KARNER

  

A fine quality porcelain figurine of a prancing horse, possibly a Lippizan, produced by Rosenthal (Germany). This is model number 1136 by the famed artist Prof. Both artist's name and model number are impressed into the mold under the base.

The Rosenthal hallmark is also present and is an unusual, seldom seen hallmark. The word Selb in the hallmark was last used in the mid 1950s, and we believe this piece predates that. The hallmark is surrounded by an impressed circle which cuts through the words Rosenthal Germany, which makes the mark look like a potential second quality, but it is not.

The hallmark stamp just did not stamp on the bottom of the circular indentation. I will include a closeup photo for your inspection. This figurine is beautifully detailed and presented in the white, or blanc de chine, finish. It measures 6 3/4" tall by 7" long. No chips, cracks, repairs or restorations as examined under black light and lighted magnification.
