History Notes Credit to WorthPoint. Wikipedia and Jess Nelson, (sculptor-owner-collector). In 1872, Dresden decorator Carl Thieme founded the Saxon Porcelain Manufactory in Potschappel, a suburb of Freital, southwest of Dresden, the capital of Saxony. In the 1980s, the Higher Munich State Court decided Thieme's factory alone would use the name Dresden Porcelain.

Though the firm was exporting to Russian, Asian, and Arab regions in the 1990s, it experienced a gradual decline from bankruptcies and frequent ownership changes. Over 12,000 original models and plaster forms have been irretrievably damaged or lost due to the wrong priorities being set by the company management for decades and lack of funds for maintenance and moisture control. The mold storage building was in a ruinous state and the plastered models (molds) decomposed. In 2014 it was calculated that already over 60 percent of the model pool could be considered lost.

The factory became defunct in 2020, when the factory was dissolved. The "regular" stamping of the mould numbers did not begin until after 1950.

Behind it is a letter for the bossier. Lettering in front of the number began in 1984-97.

The names of the embossers represented by the abbreviations are recorded in a list kept by the raw operations manager. We would hope these records were saved, as the Dresden factory no longer exists. The porcelain casting process begins with the sculpturing of an original master model usually modeling clay or? In the case of the horse soldier, it is a three part model; horse. A plaster mold is built up around the original master model sculpture(s) and "master or mother" molds are made (3) in plaster of paris.

Into the plaster molds, porcelain clay is poured and set aside to absorb the water in the clay and dry. In the case of our horse soldier, the clay (greenware) parts are pulled out of the molds and glued together with slip clay. The resulting greenware sculpture copy (reproduction) is fired in a kiln, resulting in a porcelain bisque production copy of the original that is 10% smaller (it shrinks from drying and kiln firing high heat). It is then painted with glaze colors and fired in the kiln again. It goes to market as an "original" porcelain fiqurine.

Many master molds can be made from the master model. If the master model and master molds are kept safe, pristine and dry they can last for years.

Sounds like this did not happen at Dresden, making our figurines limited and very collectable! This adds value to the serious art collector! This item is in the category "Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Sculptures & Figurines". The seller is "jbnstudios" and is located in this country: US.
